“Sports Therapy is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.”
– Society of Sports Therapists
At S57 Health and Wellbeing Clinic, our Sports Therapists specialise in 3 main areas:
Sports injuries, by definition, include injuries involving the musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage). Our Sports Therapists are committed to providing state-of-the-art clinical care for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Once pain and swelling are reduced, progressive reconditioning treatment will begin. Alongside hands-on treatment, exercises will be prescribed to target specific goals such as mobility, flexibility training, coordination of balance and joint positioning. As progress is made, we can work together towards re-establishing strength.
Sports Massage, before and after exercise, can help to prevent injury, increase flexibility, and improve performance. It involves the manipulation of soft tissue (skin, tendons, muscles, fascia, and ligaments) to assist an athlete’s performance and recovery. Sports massage is designed to correct imbalances and problems in soft tissue that are caused by repetitive and strenuous physical activity.
There are 3 main types of Sports Massage:
- Maintenance: (during training) to correct soft tissue dysfunction.
- Pre-event: (before competition) to aid preparation by loosening muscles.
- Post-event: (after competition) to help recovery by improving circulation and reduce muscle tension.
Dance screening is a series of tests administered by a Sports Therapist to assess the strength, flexibility, function, balance and general ability of your body to dance. We can then ascertain your body’s ability to perform the movements that are required for your dance style, while minimising your risk of an injury both in the short and long term.
Typically this kind of service has been aimed at pre-professional or professional dancers and has only been available in London and larger cities. We are making this service local, accessible and available for every dancer of every age. Our tailor made screening protocol uses the gold standard orthopaedic tests and assessment methods to give you the highest quality professional service.
